Girl, 10, strangled by a swing rope in Rarieda

A 10-year-old girl is reported to have been strangled by a rope on a swing in Rarieda.

Joan Akinyi body was found dangling from the rope of the swing by a neighbour who then alerted the police in Lweya village.

Area Assistant Chief Mr Alfred Oyoyo said the girl had gone to play together with other children in the neighbourhood.

“According to the grandmother, the little girl left her while she was attending to her household chores in the house,” said Oyoyo.

He said that a few hours later, the grandmother got a phone call from a neighbour informing her that Joan’s body was found dangling from the rope of the swing on which they were playing with the other children.

The administrator added that in the event, the grandmother raised alarm before they called the provincial administration and the police who later came and picked the body to Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary to await post-mortem.

“We have not exactly established what could have killed the girl but we are highly suspecting that she was accidentally strangled by the rope of the swing,” he added.
