A British woman has reportedly been questioned by police on Tenerife, Spain, after doctors found a dead tortoise inside her vagina.
Staff at the A&E department of a medical centre in the south of the island are said to have called officers in after making the bizarre discovery.
The unnamed woman, described as an expat, had sought help after suffering pain in her genital area which doctors diagnosed as an infection caused by the reptile.
The island’s newspaper El Dia claimed she told police she had begun to feel odd after going out partying with a group of British friends a couple of days earlier - but had no idea how the tortoise ended up where it did.
The size of the reptile has not been revealed.
Police sources in Tenerife confirmed the story was true and officers had been asked to speak to a British woman about the bizarre discovery.
National Police in Tenerife, reported to have been called in to question the woman over concern about how the animal had ended up in her private parts, could not be immediately reached.
Spanish daily ABC reported: “A woman of British origin went to A&E at El Mojon in Arona, Tenerife, on Saturday because she felt pain in her private parts.
“The duty doctors inspected her and saw that her discomfort was due to the fact that the woman, who lives on the island, had a dead turtle inside her vagina which had caused a serious infection.”
In December last year doctors revealed the full list of baffling items found in vaginas.
The list was compiled using the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's database of emergency room visits in the US throughout 360 days.
In July it was reported a woman chose to buy an engagement ring, put it inside a Kinder Egg and then insert it into her vagina.
The plan was simple - she would suggest some "finger-work" to her partner, he would discover it, retrieve it and then she would drop down on one knee.
"Equal parts unexpected, disgusting and I suppose, romantic," writes Adam Kay, a former junior doctor in his new book.
However what the lady hadn't anticipated, was that the Kinder Egg would get stuck.
