Sharon Otieno’s mum sends message to Uhuru

Sharon Otieno’s mum Melida Auma on Wednesday revealed that the gruesome killing of her daughter is still haunting the family and asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to step in.

Speaking at her home in Homa Bay County, Auma requested the Head of State to ensure that the killers of her daughter are brought to book.

“It is my humble request to President Uhuru to look into this issue so that the truth is known.

“It has been hard for us. Very hard indeed. We have gone through a lot since Sharon disappeared. We want this matter put to rest.

“We want peace but this will be possible only after her killers are exposed and charged,” said the mother of four.

Sharon’s baby is set to be buried today and her grandmother Rosemary Nyargiambandi lamented the manner her granddaughter was killed.

“Even animals are treated with … dignity in death,” she stated.

Her father Douglas Otieno demanded justice but said he is not able to attend court proceedings in Nairobi due to financial constraints.

“Why did they have to kill an innocent child? Why?”

"I cannot even attend the court proceedings in Nairobi because I cannot afford the fare,” he revealed.

Michael Oyamo, a suspect in the killing of the Rongo University student will in the meantime be locked up for two more weeks as per a High Court order.

On Wednesday, Justice Luka Kimaru gave the homicide investigations unit 14 days to detain Oyamo at Muthaiga Police Station after being notified of possible charges against him.

“The court agrees that the case is complex and due to the multifaceted nature of investigations, it is only fair that the suspect be detained for 14 days to allow investigators to complete their work,” ruled Kimaru.
