Government issues statement on Sharon Otieno’s death

The Government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe has issued a statement concerning the abduction of second year student Sharon Otieno and Nation Journalist Barrack Oduor.

Sharon, who was a student at Rongo University went missing on Monday evening and her body was found dumped in Kodera Forest, Homa Bay County.

In the statement, Kiraithe says the abduction was an actual attempted murder.

“This unfortunate death was preceded by the abduction and courageous escape of Barrack Oduor a journalist who was in the course of his duties as a journalist. It now appears that this abduction was actually an attempted murder,” read part of the statement.

The Government also assured Kenyans and the media that the incident will be thoroughly investigated to find out who is responsible.

Barrack was seriously injured after he jumped out of the speeding vehicle to escape from the kidnappers.

Mr Oduor said that he was investigating a love gone sour between Sharon and a prominent Governor when the incident happened.
