These are the four women likely to be Deputy Governor, Sonko reveals

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Mbuvi has announced the names of four women likely to take up the position of Deputy Governor since the resignation of Polycarp Igathe on Wednesday 31 January.

Speaking on Wednesday 22 August during an interview with Milele FM, Sonko said he is conducting consultations on whom to appoint as Deputy Governor.

"I have four names but I am still conducting consultations because Jubilee belongs to the leadership. There is Agnes Kagure, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, Karen Nyamu and Jane Weru," said Sonko.

Sonko, who had earlier nominated self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna for the position, says he did it out of anger and bitterness, citing bad politics and a lot of pressure.

Polycarp Igathe resigned barely six months after assuming office citing failure to earn the trust of his boss to enable him to deliver services to Nairobians.

“I write to resign my seat as the elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm, Wednesday, 31st January 2018. Serving Kenyans, in Nairobi under your leadership, has been a high honour and distinct privilege. I am grateful to Nairobians and yourself for giving me the opportunity to serve. Thank you and please accept my highest personal regards,” wrote Igathe in a letter addressed to the Nairobi Governor.
