Camila Cabello was one of the big winners of the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards in New York on Monday night, while Jennifer Lopez put on a show-stopping performance with a medley of all her greatest hits.
The VMAs, which has gender neutral categories, was opened by rapper Cardi B who led the way in nominations with 10.
But it was former Fifth Harmony member Camila, who brought along her mum as her plus one, who won big when she picked up Video of The Year for Havana and also scooped Artist of The Year.
"I can't believe this is for me," Camila, who split from girl group in late 2016 to launch a solo career, told the audience at Radio City Music Hall.
Another big winner was Childish Gambino, the music stage name of actor Donald Glover, who came away with three for his hard-hitting video This Is America about black identity and police brutality.
While Ariana Grande, Aerosmith, Travis Scott and Nicki Minaj both gave show-stopping performances, J-Lo thrilled fans with a medley of some of her best-known songs as her career was honoured at the annual ceremony.
The singer, 49, became the first performer of Latin heritage to be handed the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
J-Lo, whose parents were born in Puerto Rico, was introduced by Canadian star Shawn Mendes, who praised her for "breaking down barriers" for women.
Before accepting the award, she donned a gold sequinned outfit and brought the audience to its feet when she performed Jenny From The Block, Love Don't Cost A Thing and All I Have.
She also brought out the rapper Ja Rule to perform their 2001 hit I'm Real.
The VMAs have a reputation for provocative stunts but, aside from a segment on U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial immigration policies, there were few surprises.
Rapper Logic was joined onstage by dozens of immigrant children and their families wearing white t-shirts saying "We are all human beings," for a performance of his song One Day.
The song is a protest against the policy that saw thousands of immigrant children separated from their parents in June after crossing the southern border with Mexico without documents.
