Mille Odhiambo: I almost slapped a man for offering me Sh5k bribe in parliament

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has revealed that she almost slapped a man who tried to bribe her with Sh5, 000 to influence a motion in parliament.

Speaking as one of the guests during a discussion panel on Citizen TV, Millie said that she was surprised at Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly Beatrice Elachi’s remarks on parliament bribery.

“I am surprised Mheshimiwa Elachi is talking about Sh10,000 bribes (in Parliament). Once a young man walked up to me and gave me Sh5,000 to influence some motion. I almost slapped that man,” said Mille.

Millie’s remarks come after National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi invited the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate allegations that MPs were bribed to shoot down the controversial sugar probe report.

“I have instructed the Clerk of the National Assembly to immediately write to the members who have been quoted in sections of the media citing incidences of bribery within the precincts of parliament; inviting them to share their testimonies or any information that they may have with the Powers and Privileges Committee,” said Muturi.

The Suba North MP also said that she was personally called to bring down the sugar probe report despite being absent on the day of the debate.

“Having been an MP before I can tell you even if I was not in the house the day of debating on the report, there was a lot of lobbying the previous day in the house to bring it down I was personally called to bring down the report!” added Mille.
