VIDEO: Uhuru scores impressive penalty against Governor Ongwae

President Uhuru Kenyatta showed he is no pushover in soccer matters after scoring an impressive penalty against Kisii Governor James Ongwae on Sunday.

Amid cheers from fans who had thronged the Gusii Stadium, the Head of State made a short run-up before calmly slotting the ball past Ongwae who reacted late.

The President was visiting Kisii county to officially launch the stadium which was recently upgraded at a cost of Sh10 million.

After kicking off the 6th edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games that will run up to August 18, President Kenyatta commended the Kisii County Government for renovating the stadium and pledged the national Government’s financial support to further modernise the sports facility.

"We must encourage good work and I think this is a commendable job. We would like to see governors emulate the work that has been done here in Kisii County," the Head of State added.

Speaking during the event, he also called for concerted efforts to support the youth in playing their rightful role in development.

"If we cannot solve the problem of the youth as a country, then we cannot achieve tangible development," President Kenyatta said.

Earlier, President Kenyatta addressed over 8,000 youths at Kisii School as he led the country in celebrations to mark this year’s International Youth Day.

The Head of State emphasized on the need for peace and unity in achieving the country’s development goals, urging the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to engage in divisive activities.

The President further called on the youth to play a key role in the fight against corruption, saying the vice was undermining efforts to transform the country.
