- Mutahi Ngunyi celebrated Miguna Miguna's arrest by joking about his two well-read books
- He said he would send the author his books to read while in cells after his arrest on Friday
- Miguna's books released in 2012 and 2013 respectively exposed government's 'corrupt' figures
Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi hit Former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Miguna Miguna below the belt on social media by throwing a jibe at his arrest. Miguna Miguna, author of the books 'Peeling Back The Mask and Kidneys for the King was arrested from his home in Runda, Nairobi following his participation in the swearing-in of National Super alliance (NASA) Coalition leader Raila Odinga on January 30.
According to DCI George Kinoti, the National Resistance Movements (NRM) ‘General’ was arrested for administering an illegal oath and for being a member of an outlawed organisation. Justice James Wakiaga, a High Court Judge, thereafter ordered his release on a Sh50,000 cash bail but Miguna was rearrested at the Githunguri police station according to lawyer Edwin Sifuna.
“Miguna has been put back in the Cells a few minutes ago here at Githunguri Police Station. It appears orders have come to the local police to defy the High Court release order,” Sifuna posted.
Miguna was later taken Lari police station where the OCS and OCPD allegedly denied access to family and counsel. This was reported by Sifuna on his Twiter handle on Saturday, February 3.
Miguna is at Lari Police Station. OCS, OCPD have denied access to counsel and family. We do not know his state.— Edwin Sifuna (@edwinsifuna) February 3, 2018
Miguna’s arrest on Friday, February 2
Miguna’s arrest caused an uproar with supporters of Raila Odinga’s presidency crying foul over the government’s crackdown. Others mocked the general saying it served him right to be behind bars.
One response that of Mutahi Ngunyi, however, cannot be ignored. The political analyst celebrated Miguna’s arrest and sarcastically tweeted he would comfort the latter by sending two books to his cell.
Pole Miguna. As a GUEST of the STATE this Weekend, I will COMFORT you by sending to YOUR cell two BOOKS. "Peeling Back the MASK" and "Kidneys for the King" pic.twitter.com/1SA4KQOsSt— Mutahi Ngunyi (@MutahiNgunyi) February 2, 2018
The two books in the picture are Miguna’s pieces in which he deconstructs Raila Odinga after working as his adviser and aide during the latter's prime minister years. Miguna wrote the two books, giving an analysis of the leading politicians’ track records in public service.
In Peeling Back the Mask: A Quest for Justice in Kenya which was released in 2012, Miguna lay bare the inner workings of Kenya’s coalition government and attacked the record of the then prime minister Raila Odinga. He painted the prime minister’s office as stuffed with corrupt and thieving politicians.
In February 2013, Miguna unleashed Kidneys for the King: de-Forming the Status Quo in Kenya which had Kenyan public figures up for ruthless exposure. Its first and last chapter revolved around former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga and Raila Odinga.
Mutahi’s tweet was laden with sarcasm seeing that Miguna was arrested for supporting a figure he exposed in two of his books, which were widely read.
