Senator Murkomen's attack on Governor Wangamati causes Twitter uproar

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator and Leader of Majority in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen found himself on the receiving end when his remarks about the Governor and MCAs who chased newly transferred teachers away rubbed netizens the wrong way.

Murkomen on January 11 questioned the act by Bungoma County Governor Wangamati and Makueni MCAs who refused to admit teachers who had been posted in their areas by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Governor Wangamati on January 6 made it clear that his County would not accept the teacher transfer that is a directive by Education Cabinet Secretary Dr.Fred Matiang’i. He asked the new Lugulu Girls and Friends School Kamusinga principals to go back to TSC and seek fresh posting.

On January 11, five Ward Reps were locked up at Mtito-Andei Police Station after storming St. Joseph’s Girls-Kibwezi demanding that a principal who had just reported at the school leaves.

Four Bungoma Ward Reps dramatically ejected the new Principal of Friends School Kamusinga Boys on January 10.

The protests against teachers transfers have been ongoing since the Ministry of Education led by Matiang’I ordered the transfers. Some cases remain unreported.

Senator Murkomen airing his stand on the whole ordeal took a shot at Governor Wangamati and other politicians taking part in ‘disrupting’ education.

Gov. Wangamati&MCAs in Bungoma plus Makueni who are chasing away High School Principals MUST read the Constitution Schedule IV to understand that the management of Secondary schools is not a devolved function.They are part of the tribal disease the ministry is trying to cure

His tweet, however, was not received well, with some followers asking him to look for more important things to do;

I dont think so. I can't imagine someone employing their tribe in the county government to lead another tribe

Huko hawatakaa, ujinga ya @FredMatiangi mtaacha.. We can't allow incompetent people to be dumped in our good performing schools. Never!!!!— Simiyu Lumunyasi (@LumunyasiSimiyu) January 11, 2018

There is mo politics or tribalism here. It's all about taking a performer to the best performing schools especially after taking away their best— Justus Amayo (@amayojnr) January 11, 2018

I stand with Bungoma County leadership on this, residents of Kakamega should borrow a leaf

We want good results, do not tell us about constitution when you yourselves do not respect it— Makokha Meja Wanja (@makokhaMyk) January 11, 2018

A few agreed with him on the matter;

THE 4 ROGUE Bungoma MCAs who ejected the principal of Friends School Kamusinga all because he's a KIKUYU, should know that The Principal of Limuru Girls School is a Luhya by the name Mrs Khainga! ...They Should Think Before they Act!

— MUNENE WA NJERU (@MuneneWaNjeru) January 11, 2018

I reluctantly agree. However, the feeling is that the best principals are being poached from 'some' counties to go enrich 'other' counties. @FredMatiangi must debunk these concerns.— john walu (@JWalu) January 11, 2018

They should be locked and taken to court asap.We can't politicize and tribalise education for heavens sake— David Ngure Nganga (@sirngure) January 11, 2018
