David Maraga’s daughter reveals ten things you did not know about him in a heartfelt letter

Chief Justice David Maraga’s daughter, Emma Maraga, a law student, revealed interesting facts about his father while giving a speech at the Strathmore. CJ Maraga was presented with the CB Madan Award, for strengthening the rule of law and especially how he handled the two presidential petitions filed at the Supreme Court.

Here are some of the interesting facts Emma said about his father;

1. Emma said that her dad is the most loving, compassionate and loyal man who makes time for family despite his busy schedule.

2. CJ Maraga would make a 14-hour trip by bus to visit his daughter in Kampala, Uganda who is studying dentistry at the Makerere University.

3. Emma said her dad has never imposed any of his children to follow his career footsteps but demanded the best from them.

4. She also went ahead and said that before her grandfather died, he encouraged his son (CJ Maraga) when he was still a young boy, to sell goats so that he could to attend school.

5. CJ Maraga joined school when he was in standard three since he did not have money to go to school early enough. The mother earned the fees from picking pyrethrum.

6. Emma said her dad, while in university, saved up from his ‘boom’ (money provided by government to university students for upkeep) to build a home for his mother.

7. The Chief Justice as brought up by a single mother who took him through school up to university.

8. Emma said her father would often pay school fees for many orphans, relatives and disadvantaged children.

9. CJ Maraga’s daughter described her father’s belief in God as ‘immovable’ which has been demonstrated in his personal and public life.

10. Emma said her mother has stood beside her father for 40 years.
