  • Farah Maalim said that he does not need President Uhuru's or Raila's blessings to be elected in Garissa County
  • Mr Maalim lost his Garissa Township parliamentary bid to Aden Duale during election

Former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya Farah Maalim said that he does not need the blessings of President Uhuru Kenyatta or National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga to be elected in Garissa County.

“I have never in my entire political life lobbied for appointment, PM Raila's Coalition Government included and never will. I don't need Uhuru's or Raila's blessings to be elected in Garissa County. I contested for every position held including being DS. Guided by convictions only,” Farah Maalim posted on his twitter handle.

Mr Maalim lost his Garissa Township parliamentary bid to Majority leader of the National Assembly of Kenya Aden Duale during the election session.

During an interview with AM Live, Mr Maalim said that he has not been part of any plans to ‘swear-in’ Raila Odinga terming the process as a ‘recipe for chaos’.

“As someone with a legal background I will like to uphold the law. I have not been part of any process that is arranging for the swearing in of Raila Odinga. I will hesitate endorsing any 'swearing in' because that is a recipe for chaos,” said Mr Maalim during an interview with AM Live.

This is after Raila Odinga announced that he would be sworn-in as the President of Kenyan through the People’s Assembly.

“I will be sworn in as President of Kenya on Jamhuri Day (December 12) through the people’s assembly, and go to State House. We will meet to discuss the matter and direct on the way forward,” said Raila.
