Nairobi Police Commander names areas where heavy security will be deployed during Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration

Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome has named the areas in Nairobi where heavy security will be deployed during Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration on Tuesday, 28th November.

Briefing the press in Nairobi earlier today, Koome started by informing the public about Sunday’s Standard Chartered Marathon, which he said will be well secured as the police have already prepared strategies to cover the event on the ground and on air.

The following will the routes that will be affected by tomorrow’s marathon:

  • Mombasa Road from General Motors (Vehicles will be diverted to Enterprise Road and Southern Bypass
  • Lower Hill Road
  • Lang’ata Road
  • Nairobi West Round about
  • Uhuru Highway
  • Museum Hill
  • Barabara Tano
  • Wangari Maathai Road at around Shell Petrol station
  • University Way
  • Taifa Road
  • City Hall Way and Ngong Road

On Tuesday’s much awaited inauguration, Koome assured Kenyans that the venue was properly secured and that anyone who causes trouble will be dealt with according to the law. He said that there were enough officers (specialised units) deployed to secure the event.

He then went on to mention the areas in Nairobi that will be red zoned, saying that maximum security will be upheld. These are: Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, Museum Hill, Wangari Maathai Road and Thika Superhighway all the way to Kasarani Complex.

A 'red zone' acccording to the Police Commander means an area where there is maximum security.

He has asked all Kenyans to cooperate and also asked the media to let Kenyans know about how historic the event is going to be.

He finished by saying that many international leaders are expected and that there will be no compromise when protecting them.

When asked about the planned NASA rally, he said that none of his commander shave been informed about any other gathering and asked people who want to hold public meetings to follow the law when organizing one.
