William Ruto attacks Raila Odinga after his visit to the US

Deputy President William Ruto on 9 October attack National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga after his speech in the USA at the Centre for Strategic and International (CSIS) headquarters, Washington DC. Raila went to kick off important meetings with members of the congress so as to push for electoral reforms in light of the current political situation in Kenya.

Raila Odinga claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto are hanging on to power and that Jubilee plans to extend its reign with the DP who will be running for presidency in 2022. This is after he said that Kenya was hurtling into dictatorship.

“Kenya matters, at least it did then. In this crisis though, the US and other pro-democratic friends chose to avert their gaze from the unfolding election lawlessness and continued against all the evidence to support a deeply tainted electoral process,” said that Opposition leader during his speech.

DP Ruto took to his twitter handle and said that Raila went all the way to the USA to seek support to scuttle the possibility him being elected president in 2022.

“So, Tinga went all the way to the USA to seek support to scuttle the possibility of a son of peasant from being elected prezo in 2022!Balaa!” DP Ruto posted on his twitter handle.

The Opposition leader still went ahead and said that both the August 8 election and the Repeat presidential election were not conducted in a free, fair and credible manner. He said that the envoys have not succeeded in solving the crisis at hand.

"The envoys have not succeeded in diffusing the crisis. Let me be blunt again. They sometimes have contributed to the problem. I have come to Washington to convey a simple message. We need a much fuller engagement from the many arms of governance that you country possesses to assist the envoys based in Nairobi," said Raila.

Raila also said that the Supreme Court’s Chief Justice David Maraga and the other judges shocked Kenyans and the world when he annulled the August 8 presidential results.
