Safaricom dealers- Boycotting Safaricom will leave one million Kenyans jobless

Dealers association through their Chairperson Esther Muchemi claim that the ongoing boycott of Safaricom products could cost many Kenyans jobs.

Esther Muchemi, group CEO of Samchi Telecom which was the pioneer dealer to roll out mobile money transfer service (M-Pesa) says that the situation is already affecting M-pesa returns.

The boycott was called on by National Super Alliance (NASA) to its supporters on claims that the management of Safaricom and other major companies had the blood of Kenyans on their hands.

At a press briefing on KTN on November 6, Muchemi said that if the situation remains as it is, Safaricom Dealers Association will have to cut down on labour, sending home some employees.

Muchemi appealed to politicians to sober up, stick to politics and let business owners be.

"We appeal to all Kenyans to resist such calls to kill our economy. Boycotting Safaricom means no communication networks and those who will lose jobs are our brothers and sisters with families to feed and children to educate," she said.

Nyanza Association leader Jerim Auko who was also at the briefing said that the boycott will cripple dealers who have helped Safaricom grow by connecting it to customers across the world.

"Kenyans must think carefully before fighting battles that will affect the economy and haunt their conscience," Jerim cautioned.

Although the Association is independent, the members are authorized by Safaricom.
