Court finds MKU student guilty of examinations cheating

A final year student at Mount Kenya University (MKU) Ms Flora Awino has lost a suit which sought to overturn her suspension from the institution over examinations cheating claims.

Ms Awino is said to have chewed and swallowed an incriminating evidence of cheating when she was sitting for her Diplomatic and Consular Law examination on May 28, 2017. Judge George Odunga dismissed Ms Flora Awino’s case after he found that the disciplinary process adopted by the university’s special committee achieved the threshold of a fair administrative action.

The court ruled that the institution rightfully exercised its powers and jurisdiction to discipline the student. The student had been suspended for one semester by the university and ordered to repeat her fourth-year first-semester studies in the 2017/2018 academic year.
