INTEGRITY QUESTIONS HANGS ON KEN LUSAKA AFTER BEING ELECTED SENATE SPEAKER

Integrity questions have chipped into the conversation surrounding the elections of Ken Lusaka as the speaker of the Senate relation to the corruption allegations leveled against when he was the Governor for Bungoma County. President Uhuru yesterday, 31 August said that Jubilee Party will front Lusaka for the speaker’s seat.

There were procurement queries which shocked many Kenyans during his administration in Bungoma with regard to the purchase of 10 wheelbarrows at the cost of Sh1 million each that instead could be bought at Ksh. 3,469 each. The surprise came when he confirmed the purchase of the wheelbarrows citing that they were a rare find and are long lasting.

Members from the Nasa coalition felt that Lusaka in his past had not adhered to the principles of leadership with Siaya Senator James Orengo seeking the House Clerk’s determination of whether Ken Lusaka meets the chapter six threshold as required by the constitution.

Mr.Lusaka was elected the Senate speaker on the second round after he garnered 47 votes beating his competitor Farah Maalim with a margin of 22 votes.
