There was bribery in August polls, IEBC says.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has on Wednesday 16 August said that the previously concluded election experienced voter bribery by candidates and associates.

Addressing the media, Commission Secretary Halakhe Dida Waqo said that there were a total of twenty six (26) cases of alleged voter bribery incidence that were encountered by the monitoring teams.

The affected polling stations were in Garissa, Meru, Busia, Wajir, Nyamira and Machakos counties.

Through a press statement sent to the media, the commission states that seven cases were handled by police, one was referred to the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, sixteen were pursued but remained unsubstantiated on various accounts while the other two are still under investigation.

Moreover, the statement indicates that in Machakos County, Mavoko Constituency, an aspirant was observed using a state corporation vehicle in a polling station. The commission is making a following.

The recently concluded election has experienced heated debate on exactly who won and why NASA presidential aspirant Raila Odinga is not in agreement with the results where Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the president-elect.

Raila Odinga was expected to give a statement on Tuesday amid protests in different parts of country.
