Journalists who sought to venture into politics have proved renowned politicians wrong defeating them in their own game, as yet another media personality wins in a parliamentary seat contest.

Mr Paul Katana has won the Kaloleni MP seat on an ODM party ticket as MP Khatib Mwashetani of Lunga Lunga, who defected from Ford-K to Jubilee, retains his seat.

Katana worked as a newspaper reporter at the Coast, was a businessman in the region and closely worked with the ODM party leader Raila Odinga, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho during his campaign.

Katana was popularly referred to as PK by the Kaloleni residents.

Others include Ben Oluoch Okello, a local radio personality who will now be the Migori County Senator after garnering more than 57 per cent of the votes.

In Baringo County, the former speaker William Kassait Kamket will be the new Tiaty Constituency Member of Parliament on a KANU ticket, unseating Asman Kamama with over 60 percent of the votes.

Kassait was a senior editor working for one of the local dailies.

The outgoing MP Asman Kamama managed at least 33 per cent of the votes.

Jicho Pevu’s Mohamed Ali will be in parliament as the Nyali MP while Granton Samboja takes over as the Taita Taveta governor.
