Advantages of using digital gadgets for learning purposes in schools

E-learning is basically an Information of Communication Technology (ICT) system that is used to aid teachers to educate students. It was first developed and used in the 1970s and 1980s by Murray and Starr Zoxanne Hihz but had lately advanced to E-learning 2.0, which is a neologism for Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) where by the teachers upload assignments to the internet then the students download them, complete them and then hand them in evaluation.

I found out from an E- learning 2.0 perspective, convectional E-learning systems were based on instructional packets which were delivered to students using assignments as aforementioned and now we have E- learning systems that add emphasis on social learning through use of forums Bridge international Academy branches situated in Kenya are among the schools providing advanced and integrative education via this kind of learning.

“After realising the declining standards of education in Kenya we thought of implementing a system that would revolutionize ICT learning systems by availing knowledge to the students. Their daily class work information is sent from Nairobi through email to our computers daily at 6 a.m after being prepared by professors,” says Mr. Alphonce Otieno a teacher from Bridge International School.

Alphonce says that they noticed that the students in the school performed better after joining the Bridge International School branches in different parts of the country. He adds that the computer assisted learning system will transform the current free government education by reducing illiteracy levels among students ,reduce dropouts ,socially educate students, reduce the cost of learning, reduce the amount of deforestation by reducing the amount of toxic chemicals being used to make pen ink and reduce usage of plastic among stationary, thus reducing pollution..

The government’s introduction of laptops in 2016 for class one primary pupils has also enabled many students perform fairly well according to Everlyne Auma, a parent. Everlyne hopes that the government shall embrace the practice and advance more in it to enhance good performances in schools. The practice has also reduced the use of books in different schools because of the soft copy of subjects in the computer gadgets.
