Tanzania opposition party in revenge as they declare support for Uhuru Kenyatta

Leaders of the opposition party in Tanzania, Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) have settled on supporting president Uhuru Kenyatta’s bid for a second term in what appears as revenge against Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Chadema, which is the opposition party in Tanzania had backed the former Prime Minister for presidency in the previous general elections but to their disappointment, Mr Odinga supported their opponent Magufuli Pombe who is the sating president.

In the party’s council meeting over the weekend the council chairman, Mr Freeman Mbowe told the the members that after proper analysis they had settled on Jubilee Party leader as the suitable candidate to support as Kenya gets all its feet in the electioneering period.

Mr Mbowe accused Mr Odinga of being a traitor and labeled him an enemy for having stood with CCM’s John Magufuli inn Tanzania’s 2015 polls.

It is said that president Magufuli is a close friend of MR Odinga and leaders of the ruling party in Kenya have accused their main competitors, Odinga’s side, of plotting to set up a parallel tallying center in Tanzania and had claimed that there was a plot to hack into the country’s electoral body systems and interfere with the elections.

Tanzania's Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister Augustine Mahiga dismissed the claims that had been carried by various media houses in the two countries early May this year.
