Man cuts off manhood on religious grounds

A religious man shocked residents of a Naivasha village after he severed his penis which he termed a stumbling block to his going to heaven.

The man (name withheld) who subscribes to the Akorino faith first used a razor blade but later changed to a knife to chop off the organ, which he discarded at an unknown place.

Screams from his one-roomed house attracted members of the public who called the police as the single man writhed in pain.

"The man claimed that the Bible had ordered him to discard any body part that would deter him from going to heaven," Joseph Chege, a neighbour, who was among those who rushed to his rescue said.

For over 30 minutes, the man writhed in pain as blood drenched his trousers and household effects before he was taken to hospital.

The man worked in a local quarry. Locals said he rarely interacted with them.

Despite the pain, witnesses said, the man appeared composed and even ate a piece of bread and soda before police arrived.

The superintendent in charge of Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, Dr Joseph Mburu, said the man was admitted in stable but serious condition.

"He has been taken to theatre after the incident in which he lost a lot of blood."
