This year’s edition of Hong Kong Sevens will not only be the seventh round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series but also the men’s and women’s qualifying events for a core team place in the 2017/18 series. KRU is expected to field both men and women squads.
Hong Kong Rugby union has confirmed that this year’s Hong Kong Women’s Rugby Sevens tournament will be a qualifying tournament for the World Rugby Seven Series.
Before men’s action kicks off, the women’s teams will play for a core team place on the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series 2017-18. The girls’ showdown will take place on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 at the So Kon Po Stadium with the semifinal and final taking place at Hong Kong Stadium on Friday.
Kenyan Ladies are in pool B with Argentina, Belgium and hosts Hong Kong.
According to the draw undertaken in Hong Kong on Monday, tough times await Shujaas in Hong Kong since our local boys have not found any soft-landing. They are drawn against South Africa once again, who are leading the series standings after six rounds. Canada and France also feature in pool B.
Unlike other rounds where we have 16 countries seeded in four pools, the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens which will take place on 7-9 April will see a total of seven pools making 28 nations in total. Below are all the pools.
