FA Cup: Chelsea outclass Man United to set date with Wanyama’s Spurs at Wembley

Second half low strike from N’golo Kante made all the difference at Stamford Bridge after the final whistle between Chelsea and 10-man Manchester United.

The last time United manager, Jose Mourinho made a trip to the Bridge, he suffered a 4-0 defeat in a Premier league clash in October last year.

Despite David de Gea proving strong between the sticks, an effortless Willian’s assist on the right flank, picked up by Kante, rendering him fire a stunner from 25 yards into the bottom left corner.

The Frenchman has scored twice for the Blues, both goals against United.

Ten minutes before the break, Ander Herrera received his marching orders, after a fouling Eden Hazard. The Spaniard went to the referee’s book for the second time translating to a red.

The Red Devils who were missing key players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is serving a three-match ban, skipper Wayne Rooney, and Antony Martial, had to play with ten men for the remaining 65 minutes.

Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois did well to stop strikes from Marcus Rushford, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan before he was replaced by Marouane Fellaini in the first period.

After the loss, the FA Cup holders only silverware on sight is Europa League, where they host FC Rostov on Thursday.

Antonio Conte’s men who are enjoying a 10-point lead cushion at the summit of the table, are definitely on course for a season’s double, a feat they accomplished in the hands of Carlo Ancelotti in 2010.

The Blues advance to the semi-final at Wembley locking horns with London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. Kenya’s Victor Wanyama’s side booked a slot in the semis after running riot 6-0 over Millwall last weekend.

In another semifinal fixture, Arsenal will be up against Manchester City. The matches will be played on the weekend of April 22-23.
