How to have a successful love relationship

In as much as it runs the world, very few people attain that which is called true love and a fulfilling relationship. Their minds are never in perfect harmony, due to conflicting needs and wants, ideals and beliefs. The common misconception among people is to imagine that along the way they can be compatible and even go ahead to marry each other.

Before you embark on the relationship, here are some of the tips to ensure success or failure of your relationship:

Have clearly defined goals on the relationship

A friend of mine told me what he discusses with whoever he chooses to date on the very first day they decide to date. He outlines what he wants in the relationship before everything else. If its sex that he wants in the relationship, he says so and if its long term love he declares on the very first date. He says he doesn’t want to keep her guessing about the relationship and keep her disappointed that things aren’t as she expected.

Respect your partner’s friends and family members

Always keep in mind that your partner had a life in the beginning. It didn’t revolve around you as it now seems, as you have a relationship. In as much as they might be disgusting, remember that they were there before you. Hence respect them the way they are. You don’t know what they’ve been through together. Never abuse your partner’s friends and family. It shows that you don’t respect him.

Have a life

Nothing makes a person more interesting when he or she is into something so immensely until you wonder how it’s possible. It could be dancing or it could be football so long as it’s not retrogressive like gambling, alcohol and sex. It’s that kind of activity that makes them radiate upon its mention, that thing they guard so jealously that no one interferes with. Have that thing that makes you glow in the absence of your partner. With it, even when you are cheating on him or her and give it as an excuse you’ll get away with it quite easily. After all they know it’s your passion and you can’t cheat on your passion!

Don’t be jealous or clingy

Don’t be the kind of person who wants to know where your partner is all the time. Don’t text them all the time. It shows insecurity on your part and nothing drives away a partner as quickly as an insecure person. If you have been in love before you’ll understand how painful it is to accuse even indirectly that you are cheating. It reaches a point where you can’t take it anymore and call it quits.

Be honest

The building block of any relationship is trust. And trust is born from honesty. Communicate with your partner. Don’t let your anger build inside you. If they wrong you say there and then, reach a resolution and move on with the relationship. If you don’t solve problems they’ll build up and just like a dam, the water will spill over and it could signal the end of the relationship or eternal mistrust should you choose to go on with it.
