Competition in county leadership is healthy

Marsabit Governor Ukur Yatani should realise there is nothing wrong with Boranas meeting and choosing their preferred candidate.

Marsabit is a cosmopolitan county and I am perturbed by the remarks made in The Standard attributed to Mr Yatani.

I was surprised that he took issue with the National Hospital and Insurance Fund Chairman Mohamud Ali being endorsed for a second time to challenge Yatani.

In Marsabit, politics are tribal like most parts of Kenya and I do not see what was wrong with the Borana meeting in Sololo, Moyale to start an early campaign.

In Marsabit all communities including the Borana, Rendille, Gabra, Burji and Garre have political meetings.

All communities are strategising for the 2017 election especially for the gubernatorial race because the county government is not serving locals well.

Mr Yattani was endorsed by his Gabra community at Kalacha in 2012, just before the 2013 polls.

On the shores of Lake Turkana, we have bad roads and the delicious tilapia fish is going to waste despite its vast worldwide demand.

Governor, do not panic. Campaign well and let the voters decide.
