Key players should be involved in privatisation bid

Farmers’ representatives are up in arms over the Council of Governors’ demands to be involved in the privatisation of sugar factories. Both parties have valid reasons.

For farmers to only cite the urgency and speed of privatising the factories, without looking at the bigger picture, is wrong. It is also misleading to say counties want to run the factories.

What needs to be put into consideration is the proposed shareholding structure. We need to designate a percentage to county governments so that there is inflow in form of dividends. All stakeholders deserve a report on the progress.
