Are political leaders above the law?

Politics and law are two opposing forces, with one always overshadowing the other. In Kenya, politicians appear to be above the law and their disregard of it has reached new heights.

Cases of hate speech, incitement and public abuse are just but some of the crimes our politicians have committed; but even if confronted with evidence the reasons they give for doing so are comical, with many of them saying they were misquoted or misunderstood or framed.

The law is meant to have checks and balances on power but in an era of mass corruption, greed and possibly the worst August House ever, the revamped judicial system is no match.

In a country where politicians are the law their interests overrides everything and they don’t care if mwananchi suffers.

The Constitution clearly stipulates that any individual with a legal record is unfit for office but when politics is the law and politicians gods among men none of that matters.

The solution lies with us. We should elect good leaders by voting with our brains and not our stomachs. A country with no law is not worth fighting for or living in.
