Mutahi Ngunyi did well to offer apology

The famous prophet of tyranny of numbers Mutahi Ngunyi found himself on the receiving end over hate speech.

But the step he took on forgiveness was bold and needs to be emulated.

The Luo elders showed maturity and the spirit of nationhood in resolving disputes.

Village elders should be empowered in order to effectively carry out such respectful mandates and be recognised by our courts and other arms of government. Most of them are less corrupt and unbiased.

However, due to change of societal fabric and order, such dignified elders are vanishing at an alarming rate! Very few communities still have these grey-haired men and women.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission should draw lessons from the way the hate speech issue involving Ngunyi was resolved. It is important that a victim is made to see his sins and given a chance to apologise.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria should also borrow a leaf from this arrangement. His propensity for politicising and magnifying little things should stop.
