The dirty politics that dominates Rift Valley Region

It is just slightly past two years since the jubilee government was formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in a gentleman's deal that dictated that the president would go for 10 years before he returns the favour to his deputy in 2022.

I remember during the 2005 referendum, when the latter managed to marshal support from the Rift Valley region to reject the referendum together with other leaders at that time like of Henry Kosgei. His speeches convinced nearly every one.

I remember this photo from Nyamarambe, when he had to be accousted by youths because he was selling the ideals of his party at that time ODM. Then when he was right in government courtesy of coalition govrnment, he was subjected to a vote of no confidence, which he sailed. Later he was fired by the then prime minister Raila Odinga but saved by former president Mwai Kibaki.

Now, in his backyard of rift valley, jelous politicians envy his star and want to curtail his dreams. Some politicians led by Alfred Keter, Zakayo Cheruiyot and Elijah Lagat  are now calling for him to go for the seat in 2017 and disregard the agreement between him and the President. But the big question is, it is public knowledge that Cheruiyot together with Bomet governor Isaac Rutto and Baringo senator Gideon Moi have been wedging a serious political war against the deputy president all in a bid to create a niche for their ideals. So it is laughable to imagin a person who has been fiercily opposing your ideologies advising you to do otherwise.

Rift valley, has not been short of political spoilers who think money and loud mouth can earn you position. Take an example of what happened to the former Mp for Keiyo south Nicholas Biwott, in 2007 he was beaten hands down by a first timer entrant with no resources Jackson Kiptanui by over 30,000 votes, an indication that resources did not make any difference.

Even the deputy president trounced the then KANU right man the late Chesire despite support from KANU. It is public knowledge that these leaders who are trying to destroy the chances of the deputy president to ascend to power have not offered any tangible avenue for an alternative leadership. What they are interested in is to be seen playing a game that has no trophies.

If the community has to have relevance in making the right choice of leadership, then that will be the wish of the people, it is imperative for the people to watch carefully and analyse the best combination of political formula that will continuously bring and foster development at our backyard.
