Fire razes down a nursery school after gas leak

A fire on Sunday evening razed down a property of unknown value within the premises of an upcoming King David nursery school in Mwembe town, Kisii County.

The fire is said to have been caused by three gas cylinders after they exploded.

Confirming the incidence, Kisii police boss Simon Kiragu said three people were injured in the inferno and rushed to Kisii level 6 hospital for treatment.

“Three people were injured in the incidence and were rushed to Kisii level where they are receiving treatment” said Kiragu.

The fire was contained by the residents after the firefighters from Kisii County government ran out of water. The irate residents threatened to burn the firefighters’ vehicle as they complained of laxity on the part of the county government in responding to disasters. It is only two weeks after the fire razed down a building in the same town. Residents have now raised concerns about their safety.

“This is the second incident, two weeks ago a house in Mwembe was burned. We are afraid of our security” said James Ombogo, a resident.

Simon Kiragu has further urged residents to be vigilant in order to avoid such occurrences’. “I urge residents to be vigilant in order to avoid such cases” said Kiragu.
