Kindiki's endorsement as DP Ruto's running mate unrealistic

While I appreciate Meru community’s decision to endorse Senate majority leader Hon. Kindiki to be deputy president William Ruto’s running mate come 2022, the decision is quite too early and unrealistic. Given that 2022 is almost a decade from now, a lot may happen.

The deputy president Mr. Ruto still has a case pending at Internal Criminal Court (ICC) for acts against humanity following 2008 post-election violence. If anything goes wrong for Mr. Ruto, he won’t be in the 2022 presidential race. What will be senator Kindiki’s fate?

Furthermore, Meru community is hopeful to get support from central Kenya. Unfortunately in Kenya, if history repeats itself, central Kenya has been known since time immemorial to support one of their own ‘Mudu wa Nyumba’. Will he (Kindiki) get the support he is anticipating for 2022? It is a fact that come 2022, Central Kenya will stage their candidate to take over from President Kenyatta.

Furthermore in politics, there is no permanent friend or enemy and anything is possible. For instance when Mr. Ruto opts to form a re-union with the former prime minister, will Kindiki have a say in the union. Politics is a game of numbers where our estimations may be wrong and can cost as much.

More so, it is so early for senator Kindiki to be accredited such a high status though I attest to the fact that he is senate majority leader. He is fresh in politics. If he were to be ousted from senate in the 2017 elections, would he trade his politics adequately? Will he still be relevant in Kenyan politics if he is no longer the leader of majority, unless he is given a direct nomination? Pride comes before a fall, as such he needs to take time and play politics well.

Meru community should have analysed and consulted thoroughly from political analysts so as to reach a well informed and prudent decision. Many young politicians in previous governments had a brilliant beginning as they moved masses whenever they spoke but few years later they crumble into political misfits. No one listens to them. Senate Kindiki is a respected leader and it’s my wish that he smartly plays his cards so that he doesn’t join the team of failed politicians in future.
