Woman pleads guilty, given a six-month non-custodial sentence for assault

A woman has been given a six-month non-custodial sentence by a Makadara court after she pleaded guilty to beating up a police officer at Hazina in Starehe Sub-county, Nairobi County.

Vivian Kwamboka admitted to attacking Bernard Kalwe, a police officer, on April 20.

According to court records, the officer at the time of the assault was executing his duty when Kwamboka attacked him.

The court heard that the accused arrived at the reporting office within Hazina, at around 11pm, and found the complainant and a colleague who was on duty.

She then demanded to see her husband, claiming to have seen the complainant arresting him earlier in the day.

The court heard that the officers told the accused that the report office had no holding cells and directed her to Industrial Area police station.

When she stood her ground, the officers told her to go home since it was late in the night.

However, the prosecution said Kwamboka moved to the report office counter, grabbed the complainant’s little finger and bit it.

The court heard that it took the intervention of police, who were on patrol, to stop Kwamboka from biting the complaint’s finger.

Kwamboka was arrested and later taken to court, where she was charged with assault, which she admitted to committing.
