Bar workers attack, injure pregnant woman over unpaid bill

Three bar employees have been arraigned to face the charge of causing grievous harm for allegedly attacking and injuring a woman over a beer bill.

Elizabeth Wambui Githinji, Ether Wanjiru Njuguna and Serah Wangari Munyu were accused of causing grievous harm to Grace Mweru.

The incident, according to court details, happened on November 20 at a bar in Nairobi's Wiathaka.

On the fateful night around 11 pm the complainant was having a drink with other revellers at the bar within the Waithaka shopping center.

Since it was about time to close, a waiter demanded payment for the drinks from the complainant, leading to an argument.

It was then that she called the bar manager, Elizabeth Wambui Githinji who arrived and reportedly wrestled with the complainant before Mweru was rescued by other revellers.

According to court records, the manager then asked the security guard manning the bar to close the main gate while the complainant's boyfriend was paying for the drinks.

In an unexpected turn of events, Elizabeth reportedly mobilized other staff, the co-accused, and when the complainant was leaving they attacked and left her bleeding profusely.

Luckily, the police on patrol arrived and managed to contain the situation. The complainant was rushed for treatment where the medics revealed that the complainant had lost her pregnancy.

The three were arrested and when they appeared before Kibera. senior principal magistrate Sharon Maroro denied the charge and we were released on a bond of Sh 60,000
