Co-op Bank score a century against Mennonites

Champions Co-op Bank scored a century against Mennonites in the men’s basketball Premier League match at Nyayo stadium gymnasium on Sunday evening.

Tony Abondo, Salim Ali and Erick Odhiambo recorded scores of 28, 13 and 12 points respectively.

Kooshin Diliwe, who looped 24 times was outstanding on Mennonites’ side with Felix Ochieng contributing ten. Co-op Bank won the quarters 21-12, 27-4, 20-8, and 32-14.

“We are on good course. The win has greatly boosted us,” said Co-op Bank coach Carey Odhiambo after the victory. Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)   battered Nairobi Aviation to win 91-58 in the last Premier League match at the venue. Job Byron and Paul Nyakinda scored 22 and 11 for Aviation in the latter’s quest to bridge the gap that was widened by their opponents.

However, KPA women had a bad outing losing to both Strathmore and Storms. Dockers, who lost 45-48 to Strathmore in their first fixture, did not survive Storms who won 60-42 after a narrow 25-24 lead at the breather.

Storms were made to soar over KPA by Susan Akinyi and Sylvia Omolo as Mombasa-based team duo of Brenda Angeshi and Volnet Wanyama tried to save face for the visitors.

Ulinzi won 56-50 against Nakuru Club in another men’s Premier. Zetech College managed to edge Kenya College of Accountancy University (KCA-U) 60-57 in the men’s Division One encounter.

In other Division One encounter, Strathmore University won 77-71 against Kenya Airport Authority, Equity Bank got their third successive win against Little Prince by 64-54, Trailblazers beat Parklands 75-53, Umoja soared with 47-39 win over KCA-U and Kenyatta University Pirates won 63-58 against World Hope.

Meanwhile,  in the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) league, Dankind were defeated Baraka Xtreme 49-36. Baraka Xtreme had earlier whitewashed Deaf Kings 83-20.

Legacy beat Our Lady Queen of Peace 40-32.However, Our Lady Queen of Peace revenged by thumping Lycans 66-42.

Friends of Basketball beat CFC Stanbic 54-51. Lycans suffered another 57-26 loss at the hands of Daystar University.                                  Ulinzi Blades had 93-41 win over Daystar University was at it again sinking 30 as the soldiers hit Predators 73-29.

Barclays Bank Eagles continued to soar high as they kept their unbeaten run intact with a 50-40 victory over Mount Kenya University Thika 50-40.

Old Pirates went down 56-54 to Multi Media University as Ulinzi Blades slashed Daystar University 93-41 in the NBA women encounter. MKU Thika had piped Zetech College 37-27.
