Cord County Assembly members will “crush” an attempt to impeach Governor Evans Kidero.

Jubilee members want Kidero removed from office for alleged gross misconduct after the governor was caught in an ugly altercation with women representative Rachael Shebesh.

“He will have to go. We have the numbers and have received the backing of some of the Cord members. What he did was demeaning,” said minority Leader Ibrahim Abdi Guyo.

Guyo denied claims that they are seeking financial favours out of the impeachment motion.

But majority leader Elia Okumu said the motion will not succeed, accusing his colleagues in Jubilee of making empty threats and engaging in diversionary tactics.

He challenged Jubilee to dare bring back the motion on the floor of the house, claiming they face an embarrassing defeat.

Police are investigating the incident in which the governor was caught on camera slapping Shebesh in his office at City Hall.

“I am aware of the impeachment plot, but let me assure you that those are vuvuzulas making empty noise. They will go nowhere because they will not get even a single vote. We are behind Kidero a hundred per cent,” said Okumu.

Kidero who survived a petition challenging his election on the day the Jubilee members were plotting for his ouster, is being accused of high-handiness and being unable to run the county effectively.

“The governor is arrogant and does not know what he is doing. While Okumu doesn’t even control Cord members to speak in one voice, why is he purporting to be speaking on behalf of others?” posed Guyo.
