Kitui leaders set conditions as they meet Nkaissery

Area leaders have set tough conditions ahead of today's meeting with Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to discuss rising insecurity in the county.

The leaders have drafted a five-point protest memorandum which will top the agenda of the meeting scheduled for 9a.m. at Nkaissery's office in Nairobi.

Senator David Musila will lead five MPs from the county in petitioning the CS to ensure armed herders who have settled along the county borders and two game reserves are flushed out.

Speaking at a funeral at Ukasi Location in Mwingi Central over the weekend, Mr Musila said the leaders were tired of pleading with the Government to act decisively on armed invaders who were forcefully grazing their livestock in the locals' farms.

Lasting solutions

He said him and eight MPs from the county were in agreement on the need to confront the Government and let it understand it won't be business as usual on security matters.

"We have come up with a new process to ensure residents do their daily businesses in safe and protected environments," Musila said.

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Governor Julius Malombe who were also present endorsed the proposal and encouraged Musila and the MPs to press for lasting solutions.
