Osono disarmed after journalists shooting saga

Police have disarmed Nakuru ODM chairman Peter ole Osono, who allegedly shot at six journalists covering a protest in Ol Jorai Farm in Gilgil sub-county.

Mr Osono, who is licensed to hold a firearm, was disarmed when he went to record a statement at the Gilgil Police Station on Saturday morning.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett on Saturday morning directed police to disarm Osono ‘forthwith pending thorough investigations'.

Gilgil OCPD Sera Koki said the ODM official showed up at around 8am to record a statement and was disarmed.

Giving account

Hours later, the journalists who narrowly escaped death also showed up at the police station to give police their account of the story.

“We have done the necessary. The individual is now disarmed and we are investigating. If we establish the politician has a case to answer, then he shall be prosecuted,” said the OCPD.

The journalists arrived at the station at around noon. They recounted their ordeal to the DCIO, Joseph Owiti.

“We heard that there was a protest in the farm over a disputed access road and we went to cover. We arrived at around 11.30am. Osono then drove to the farm and shot at us. He aimed his pistol at me and I was lucky the bullet missed my head,” Raphael Munge, a Mediamax journalist recalled.

Meanwhile,  County ODM officials distanced themselves and the party from Mr Osono’s incident.

Led by youth leader Hilton Abiola, they termed the incident as ‘a display of intolerance.’
