Teacher-student affair revelaed in sleep

By Arnold Cangaini

Being the last born, Karambu was always a favoured child. Her parents saw to it that the Standard Eight pupil lacked nothing.

During school holidays, she had the rare privilege of watching television with her parents late into the night. It was during one of those moments when Karambu, bored by the news on television, dozed off. She then began speaking in her sleep.

"Nyaga, utiumba kumbira ati ukoretwe ukimenda na ri, wina muka (Nyaga, you can’t say you love me yet you have a wife)," she started her soliloquy.

She then proceeded with the address to her lover to the shock of her parents, who realised that Nyaga was her teacher. Her father wanted to wake her up but was restrained by his wife.

Kirimi, Karambu’s father, could not watch the television anymore after what he had heard. He went into his bedroom leaving the girl’s mother to listen to the erotic tale.

Finally the mother woke the girl up and said sarcastically, "Okay, wake up. The weekend is only two days away for another date."

The poor girl could not understand what her mother was talking about. The following day the parents combed every inch of their daughter’s room and recovered two love letters from the teacher.

Armed with the letters, Kirimi dashed to the nearest police station where he reported the matter. After investigations, Nyaga was arrested and charged in court where he pleaded guilty.

"God knows I love this girl," he told a shocked court. "It might seem absurd because she is my student, but we love each other and are planning to get married."

He then pleaded for mercy, which was dismissed by the magistrate. "My daughter will never be educated in a jua kali school again," the father vowed outside the court.
