Jose Mourinho has been seen for the first time since being sacked by Manchester United.

The Portuguese's time at Old Trafford came to a halt on Tuesday morning after two and a half seasons.

The 55-year-old failed to wrestle back control after a chaotic season with disputes with several players and an awful run of results.

United are sixth in the league table, 19 points adrift of bitter rivals Liverpool - who beat Mourinho's side 3-1 on Sunday to deliver the final nail to the coffin.

United outlined their next move after dismissing Mourinho, with a short-term appointment in the works until the end of the season.

A club statement read: “Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.

“The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.

“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”

Mourinho joined United in May 2016 and guided them to success in the Community Shield, League Cup and Europa League in his first season.

But he was unable to deliver success in the Premier League, with United finishing sixth in 2017, and second - but 19 points adrift of runaway champions Manchester City - in 2018.
