The Copenhagen Half Marathon, set to be held on September 13, has been cancelled, organisers have said.

"Sparta Athletics and Running and Danish Athletics have had to cancel this year's half marathon in Copenhagen because of the serious situation with Covid-19, and because of a lack of guidelines for major events during the rest of the year," read a statement.

Since its first race in 2015, the event has become a staple of the international sporting calendar, attracting 25,000 participants in 2019, with last year's winner Geoffrey Kamworor setting a world record over the distance.

However, the event's international success has been a major contributory factor to the decision to cancel it.
