Basketball: KPA beef up squad ahead of regional contest

Twenty three teams set to battle for top honours in Tanzania.

National women basketball champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) have raided Storms and Kenyatta University clubs to beef up their squads ahead of FIBA Africa Zone Five Basketball Championships start in Dar es salaam,

KPA and Equity Bank women’s teams as well as men’s KPA and Strathmore University sides will line up for Kenya.

KPA teams left on Friday by road through Lunga Lunga border for a one-day preparation in Tanzania ahead of the one-week contest.

KPA women have signed up Berlyn Milugo and Rachel Wandago from Kenyatta University and a Cameroonian Helleno, who will join the team in Tanzania.

Also in the team are Mercy Wanyama, younger sister of Tottenham’s midfielder Victor Wanyama, and Melisa Akinyi, from Storms. Coach Anthony Ojukwu said they were keen to retain the title they have won in the last two years.
