WORLD UNDER 18 CHAMPIONSHIP-KASARANI Fans stream into Kasarani Stadium to watch World Under 18 championship at the stadium. This was on 15/07/2017.(Pius Cheruiyot/standard)

Most fans attending the World Under 18 Championships at Kasarani have been forced to part with their valuable drinks before entry.

At the gate, one is asked to either drink the water or throw away the bottle. Woe unto you if you have a valuable container with pricey content like juice or whiskey.

Transport: Riding boda boda to beat the lines

Ride Boda Boda to beat long queues

As many businessmen selling sports merchandise reaped big from the Under-18 Championships, boda boda riders raked in even more.

Pedestrians had to walk almost 4km (from the Safari Park Hotel stage) to gain entry through Gate 9. Boda boda riders were charging Sh100 for the short trip; in these tough economic times, many Kenyans opted to walk, but had to deal with the long queues.

Attire. Football jerseys for athletics event

The last day of the IAAF Under-18 Championships at Kasarani witnessed a record attendance yesterday.

However, most Kenyans did not seem to know how to dress for the occasion. A number of them turned up in English Premier League jerseys; mainly Arsenal and Manchester United's. Only a handful had athletics-friendly attire.

This should serve as food for thought to organisers, who should consider selling athletics merchandise at these events.
