FOOTBALL: All to play for in Koth Biro tournament

Muddy soccer affair Up coming National footballers play heart out during the The Koth Biro tournament at the famous Ziwani grounds in Nairobi recently. Koth biro is the oldest tournament played annually during December holiday when the Kenyan Premier league is off-season. Koth biro which means “rain is coming” in Luo is associated with muddy affairs due to the rainy season. Despite the weather condition and the muddy field, this season, the tournament has attracted many professional and upcoming players who compete for the lucrative price money at the stake. Young Achievers defeated Inter-City 2-1 in the ongoing Koth Biro tournament at Ziwani grounds. It was Intercity, who scored first, in the 15th minute, through Kennedy Otieno. Everything was going their way and they were now dreaming of victory.

But a resilient Achievers side had other ideas and were back in the game when it mattered most after Ali Maleche scored in the 25th minute.

The goal did a lot to inspire the winners, who netted a second in the 47th minute, this time, through Joseph Nganga.

In another match, Matiangi Boys went down 1-0 to Githurai All Stars. Wilson Njuguna scored the all-important goal in the 84th minute. Masa will play Flat Tornadoes, while Black Mamba take on Langata Gremio in tomorrow's matches in the round of 32 fixtures.
