Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle reportedly had four teeth knocked out and was punched unconscious while on a night out in Liverpool, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

The Championship's top goal scorer, who has scored 11 times this season, was out celebrating Newcastle skipper Jamaal Lascelles' 23rd birthday on Saturday when he was alleged to have been attacked.

It's been reported that a man hit Gayle twice in the face, causing him to lose four of his teeth.

Merseyside Police revealed they were called to a report of two men fighting at 4am in the early hours of Sunday morning but arrived to find nobody there.

Gayle joined Newcastle from Crystal Palace in the summer in a deal worth around £10 million.

He was supposedly discussing his wages when someone took exception and a fight ensued.
