David Ospina set for Emirates stay

David Ospina is set to extend his stay at Arsenal after a summit meeting with manager Arsene Wenger.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper returned immediately to London after Copa America duty with Colombia to meet with Wenger and seek assurances about his future.

Ospina was with his national squad in Chile when Arsenal signed Petr Cech from Chelsea for £10million.

Ospina had finished the season as first choice after ousting Wojciech Szczesny and was anxious to retain that role with Colombia involved in World Cup qualifying matches this season.

But the arrival of Cech put a huge question mark against that ambition and Ospina came back to the capital for one day to speak with the manager.

Wenger explained to Ospina that he still rates him highly and gave him assurances that, with Arsenal competing in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup, he will be given adequate opportunities to play first team football.
