ODM leader Raila Odinga on Sunday morning visited ailing Kenya rugby coach legend Benjamin Ayimba in hospital where he was pictured standing with the legend’s family.

Odinga via his official Twitter account said that he visited the ailing legend to offer his prayers, encouragement, and extend support to the family.

“I met the family of Kenyan Rugby legend Benjamin Ayimba who is currently hospitalized to offer prayers, encouragement, and extend support to them. You are in our prayers Benja, ” he wrote.

Hours after Raila's visit, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja took to social media to reveal that the former Prime Minister has donated Sh1mllion to help offset Ayimba’s hospital bill.

"Thank you very much Raila Odinga for responding to #TurnUpforBenja and visiting the family of our rugby legend @benayimba. Your kind contribution of 1million Shillings is well received and much appreciated. Let’s keep it going. @WilliamsRuto @MusaliaMudavadi @skmusyoka,” Sakaja posted on his official Twitter account.

The former Kenya Sevens and 15s captain is critically ill and fighting for his life in hospital following a bout of cerebral malaria.

Odinga’s donation comes a day after Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja via his Twitter requested other leaders to join Kenyans in helping Ayimba’s family to settle his medical bill that stands at Sh2.3 million.

President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier sent his contribution of Sh1 million to the hospital.

“Let’s keep at it #TurnUpforBenja. Thank you H.E Uhuru for the KES 1m. Kindly @RailaOdinga @WilliamsRuto @MusaliaMudavadi join in,” he tweeted.

Ayimba, who is best remembered for masterminding Shujaa’s historic triumph at the 2016 Singapore Sevens tournament-Kenya’s first ever title at the World Sevens Series, has not been seen in public since the beginning of the year.
