Menengai Oilers maintained their perfect start to the 2021-2022 Kenya Cup season after defeating hosts Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) RFC 30-19 in a one sided match played at MMUST Grounds in Kakamega on Saturday.

The win also saw the Nakuru based side maintain their unbeaten run in the league alongside Kabras Sugar after registering their fourth win of the campaign.

Clinton Odhiambo went over from a dominant push-over maul before Timothy Omela added the extras as Oilers took an early 7-0 lead.

Tyson Maina touched down moments later from a pushover scrum again to extend Oilers lead to 12-0 after Omela missed the twos.

Davis Nyaundi grabbed the visitors third try and Omela converted to hand Gibson Weru’s charges a comfortable 19-0.

Omela sliced the posts with a penalty to extend Oilers lead to 22-0 before MMUST got their first points off a penalty converted by Erick Cantona to trail 22-3 at the break.

After the restart, MMUST added two more penalties by Cantona before Geoffrey Ominde sealed the win with a late try to edge out MMUST who despite scoring two tries lost 30-19.

"A good win, a deserved five points. The boys played well today, we were clinical in all areas and I am happy with the way we played."

"We controlled the game and especially for me it was important how we played the last minutes. We had our strong points and weak points that we need to work on but it's a good way end the year,” said Oilers coach Weru after the match.

MMUST have now lost two games and won two heading into the Christmas break.
