Amateurs to battle for KGU's Trans Nzoia Open Championship in Kitale

An estimated 100 top leading Amateurs will be flexing their muscles for excellence in the 2024 TransNzoia Golf Championship taking place at the Kitale Golf Club Course in Western Kenya.

The two days event supported by NCBA, is one of the ongoing 27 series of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Schedule being played across golf clubs in the Country and organized by the Kenya Golf Union (KGU).

This highly anticipated Open set around the picturesque course promises to be a thrilling showcase of golfing excellence, attracting top amateur golfers from across the Country.

The Open also holds significant importance as the Amateurs will be seeking qualifications for both the Kenya Amateur Golf Ranking (KAGR) and the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).

The event tees off from 8, 00 am from the First Tee with the team of C.Onyango, William Odeck and N. Muchiti while the last team featuring A.Odongo, A.Kiptigoi, and C.Wambasi will be teeing off at 9.40 AM.

Kiambu’s Elvis Muigua and currently the leading Amateur golfer in the country, will be defending his title at the Open after securing victory in last year’s event, marking his maiden triumph in the KAGC series. Golf enthusiasts eagerly anticipate Muigua’s performance as he seeks to maintain his dominance on the course.

The Open will also feature other notable competitors, including among them Kenya Railway’s John Lejirma and Vetlab’s Ebill Omollo, both of whom are expected to showcase their talents and vie for the coveted title.

The event has attracted a total of 72 golfers, including three from Rwanda, adding an international flair to the competition.

Naomi Wafula from Vipingo Baobab Ridge Golf Resort in Kilifi County is the sole female competitor who is eager to claim victory in her hometown and make her mark on the tournament.

Excitement is building as the Club, renowned for its challenging yet picturesque layout, prepares to host the event and with the golf course in impeccable condition, players can expect optimal playing conditions and a true test of skill and strategy.

Golf enthusiasts and spectators alike are expected to witness an action-packed tournament and also experience top-tier golfing competition in support of the next generation of golfing stars.

Kenya Golf Union (KGU established in 1928 is Kenya’s oldest continuous Sports Organization affiliated with the Ministry of Sports  and  Culture, the Royal &  Ancient, and the International Golf Federation.

The Union serves as the Governing body for Golf in Kenya, uniting 38 Golf Clubs and 2 Golfing Societies across the nation with its core objectives to encompass the advancement, promotion, and protection of golfing interests within Kenya.

Elsewhere over 200 golfers will be at the Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday, 27th, for the 2024 Akothe Foundation Charity Golf tournament.

Other Golfers will have to join their colleagues at Ruiru Sports Club in Kiambu County to play the Key to the Door golf event expected t kick off from 6.30 Am with the four-ball team of S.Mbochi, G.Wachira, A.Beerman and M.Nzomo.
