Rugby: Olando to captain Kenya Lionesses at Spain 7s

Kenya Lionesses squad to Madrid for the inter-regional high-performance preparation events was named on Friday by head coach Felix Oloo with Phila Olando named as the captain.

The events are being hosted by the Federación Española de Rugby (FER) and supported by World Rugby.

The tournament will feature up to 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams participating across two successive weekends of Feb20-21 and Feb 27-28.

The squad consists of Captain Olando, Celestine Masinde, Sheila Chajira, Janet Okello, Camilla Cynthia, Christable Lindo and Sarah Oluche.

Naomi Amuguni, Stella Wafula, Ann Gorretti, Enid Ouma, Diana Awino will also be part of the travelling squad.  

However, the side will miss the services of Sinaida Aura who has since retired.

A further update on contingency schedule for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2021 will be provided with a return to a full competition schedule anticipated for the 2022 edition.

Lionesses were the first Kenyan side to qualify for Olympics after finishing second in the Africa Women 7s played in 2019.

They will be using the tournament to prepare for the Olympics.
